Victory, the York City Police Department’s first therapy K-9, was donated to the department in 2021 by Leashes of Valor, a nonprofit based in Virginia that provides service dogs to veterans. She is the first canine to join the department in more than 50 years due to the stigma associated with the department and their handler’s use of dogs throughout the city and leading to the race riots. After seeing the positive effects Victory had on the first responders and the wider York County community, one other dog were added to the program. Reacher joined Victory in 2024 as part of the York City Police Department, and will be placed in York Hospital. The two officers who handle these dogs along with Victory and Reacher are committed to enhancing officer wellness and community outreach.
