Teen Safety Collab

In an effort to connect with young people in York County, we developed the Teen Safety Collab internship for juniors and seniors in York County high schools. Interns are educated on crime, social, racial and economic issues in their community. They use digital means such as social media to reach the public, and learn about marketing, content creation and branding.

We funded and assisted The Arc and Autism York to put together Autism Sensory Bags. 200 bags have been given to police that accompanied a training so they are better prepared to de-escalate people with Intellectual disabilities like autism. The Arc and Autism York assembled those bags, designed the training, and met with police departments to disperse the bags. We also partly fund a position at The Arc that supports outreach.

How safe do you feel in your community? How likely are you to trust the Police?

A large portion of youth feel safe and trust the police.

A similarly large proportion only somewhat trust and feel safe.

Reducing violence will require the York County community to take a holistic approach, that includes youth voices, to align around a set of common goals, shared responsibilities, and coordinated action.

We can be safer if we are together.
